Anyone who was in the Cork apartment complex is asked to come forward.

Gardaí in Cork investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a two-year-old are looking for witnesses to come forward.

At approximately 5.30am on Friday (5 June), Gardaí and emergency services were called to an apartment block on the Boreenmanna Road. There, they found a two-year-old girl who had suffered serious injuries. She was brought to Cork University Hospital where she was in critical condition.

It was later confirmed that she had died from her injuries.

Gardaí have now begun a series of door-to-door enquiries in the Elderwood Apartment building, and have requested that anyone who was in the complex between 4pm on Thursday and 6am on Friday to come forward. A technical examination of the apartment is being carried out by crime scene examiners from Cork City.

A post mortem will take place this afternoon under Deputy State Pathologist Dr. Margot Bolster. The course of the investigation will be guided by the examination, according to An Garda Síochána.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí at Anglesea Street Station on 021 452 2000 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
