You may see start seeing some new Garda vehicles on the roads.

An Garda Síochána has launched a number of new vehicles, including six new road policing cars.

Six new Hyundai Tuscon cars will patrol the streets of Athy, Swinford, Dunshaughlin, Ballincollig, Cahir and Ennis.

On top of that, Gardaí also revealed three new prisoner transfer vans that will operate in Portlaoise, Blessington and Letterkenny.

Finally, we got a look at a new Landrover Discovery, which will be used by the Garda Water Unit.

The announcement video is a bit ‘extra’, as the kids would say, and probably has no business being as badass as it is.

The launch of the vehicles follows an announcement from An Garda Síochána that it will be increasing its focus on large groups in public spaces.

Garda confirmed on Thursday (19 November), that it will increase patrols and engagement, particularly in relation to gathering in groups in open spaces.

This will see increased Garda activity on foot, mountain bikes and vehicle patrols in identified public spaces.

As well as this, An Garda Síochána said that it will maintain a significant presence on roads across the country, “continuing static and rolling checkpoints, to check compliance with travel restrictions”.
