Gardaí make two arrests following Cork city centre stabbing

One of them was subsequently released without charge.

Gardaí have made two arrests in connection with a stabbing in Cork city centre that occurred on 1 October.

A man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s were arrested after searches were carried out on Wednesday by Detective Gardaí from the Serious Crime Unit in Cork city.

The woman in her 20s was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Gurranabraher Garda Station and has since been released without charge.

The man in his 30s is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Bridewell Garda Station.

The arrests relate to an incident when 41-year-old man was sitting in a parked car on North Main Street accompanied by a young child when he was approached and stabbed a number of times by a lone man.

He was treated in hospital for the injuries but his injuries were not life threatening.

It’s understood the assailant ran from the scene in the direction of Adelaide Street.
