Gardaí are investigating allegations of perverting the course of justice and the unlawful use of mobile phones in a prison environment.
A man in his 20s and a man in his 50s have been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation regarding allegations of witness intimidation related to the recent criminal trial of DPP (Director of Public Prosecutions) versus Aaron Brady.
Gardaí are also investigating allegations of perverting the course of justice and the unlawful use of mobile phones in the prison environment in relation to the trial.
On Thursday evening, a man in his 50s was arrested and subsequently released. A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
On Friday morning (6 November), Gardaí attached to the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI) arrested a male in his 20s as part of the investigation.
He is currently detained at Portlaoise Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
The arrests on Thursday and Friday bring to seven the total number of arrests in the investigation related to the trial of DPP versus Aaron Brady.
Last month, Brady was sentenced to life in prison for the capital murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe, who was shot and killed during a robbery at the Lordship Credit Union in Louth on 25 January 2013.
As a result of his life sentence, Aaron Brady must serve a minimum of 40 years in prison.
Investigations in relation to the criminal trial remain ongoing.
