His body was found in a Charlestown flat after 1.40pm.
Gardaí are currently investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body of a man in his 50s in Mayo on Sunday.
The man's body was discovered in a flat on Main Street, Charlestown shortly after 1.40pm on Sunday, 27 May.
Alarms were first raised by locals who were concerned that the man had not been seen in recent days.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and following consultation with the local Coroner, his body was later removed to the mortuary at Mayo General Hospital.
The scene was examined members of the Divisional Scene of Crime Unit, and the office of the State Pathologist has been notified.
A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on Monday afternoon.
A case conference was held on Sunday evening by investigating Gardaí at Charlestown Garda Station.
Enquires are ongoing, with the course of the investigation being determined by the outcome of the post-mortem.
