Gardaí investigating the death of Joseph Deacy in Swinford, County Mayo on 12 August 2017 have arrested a man in his 20s in connection with the investigation.

The man, who has not been named, was arrested in Mayo on Tuesday morning.

He is currently being detained at Claremorris Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

21- year-old Joe Deacy, pictured above right, was visiting friends and family in Kiltimagh, County Mayo last year on a two-week holiday.

He returned to the house he was staying at in Gortnasillagh before his body was found in the driveway of the house at 6.45am on the morning of Saturday 12 August.

He had suffered severe head injuries and died in Beaumont Hospital in County Dublin on Sunday 13 August.

The case was featured on RTÉ’s Crimecall in January of 2018:

Joe’s father Adrian spoke lovingly of his late son on the programme.

“He had friends all over the place,” said Adrian.

“If you had a Venn diagram with Joe in the middle of it, you’d have seven or eight different circles around it, and that’s purely because of his personality.”

Alison, Joe’s mother, affectionately remembered his childhood.

“He had his halo of white blonde hair… just a gorgeous kid and was happy all the time, just running around…always playing football.”
