Gardaí recover €500,000 worth of stolen plant machinery and vehicles in Longford

The property was recovered on Thursday morning.

Gardaí in Granard, County Longford alongside the local Regional Support Unit, the Garda Stolen Motor Vehicle Investigation Unit, The National Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Longford Drugs Unit have seized up to €500,000 worth of stolen plant machinery and vehicles.

The combined forces carried out a search of a large industrial lock up premises in Longford on Thursday morning.

During the search, a large amount of suspected stolen industrial plant equipment including tools, trailers, vans, cars, engines and car parts were recovered.

The initial estimate of the recovered equipment amounts to up to €500,000.

Some of the items have already been identified as having been stolen from the UK over the past few months.

Gardaí are working to try and establish the origin of the rest of the property.

The scene is currently preserved as the technical examination continues.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
