Gardaí have appealed for information.
Gardaí in Athy are investigating a serious assault that occurred on Duke Street in Athy, County Kildare in the early hours of this morning, Thursday 1 November.
A man in his early 30s received serious stab wounds and has been removed to Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise.
His condition has been described as critical.
The scene in Athy has been preserved and investigations are ongoing.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with any information relating to the incident.
