Gardai treating Limerick woman’s death as murder suicide

A Brazilian woman murdered in Limerick on Friday was killed by a man known to her, who is now dead.

Rosa, a law graduate from Brazil, was found dead at an apartment on Lower Cecil Street in the city on Friday morning.

Her friends raised the alarm after she did not appear as she usually did to walk to their job at a cleaning company together.

They had been waiting outside the building for her and contacted gardaí.

Garda officers discovered her body in an apartment upstairs.

A murder investigation began after a post-mortem examination found evidence of foul play in her death.

It is believed the man suspected of her murder left Limerick on public transport on Friday and travelled to Cork, where his body was found on Saturday.

A Garda Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to support Ms Pereira Rosa's family.

Meanwhile, a fundraising campaign to help her family has raised more than €25,000. The cleaning company she worked for are paying for her repatriation.

"Our dear Jady, a Brazilian who was living in Limerick, Ireland, had her life tragically taken. In this moment of immense grief, we want to help her family give her the dignified farewell she deserves in her home country, surrounded by the people who love her," the fundraiser said.

"Jady’s employer will cover the cost of transporting her body from Ireland to Brazil. However, there are still important expenses that must be covered so she can be transported from the airport in São Paulo to her hometown, as well as the costs of her wake and burial."

The funds raised will cover the costs of a wake and funeral in her hometown of Sorocaba.

Social Democrat councillor for the area Elisa O'Donovan said: "She was a a valued and loved member of our wonderful and diverse Limerick City community."
