Gardaí have launched a major search operation across Ireland.

A major search operation is underway as Gardaí investigate premises across Dublin, Louth, Meath, Kildare and Laois in relation to a West African criminal network suspected to be involved in the laundering of €14.6 million.

The money is believed to be related to criminal proceeds and laundered through Irish bank accounts.

The search operation, launched on Thursday morning, is being led by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau.

Assisting the G.N.E.C.B are Gardaí from the Northern, Eastern and Dublin Metropolitan regions, alongside officers from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau as well as Armed Support Units.

Among the matters under investigation is the possibility that laundered money may have been used by the suspected criminal network to fund the purchase of property and other high value items across the country.

The investigation is ongoing.
