He died at the age of 94.
The 41st President of America, George HW Bush, died in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Bush’s health had been failing in recent years despite the fact that he has still managed to make a number of public appearances.
His son George W, who was also President of America, released a statement on behalf of their family.
It read: “Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Doro, and I are saddened to announce that after 94 remarkable years, our dear Dad has died. George HW Bush was a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for.
“The entire Bush family is deeply grateful for 41’s life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens.”
Current President Donald Trump released a statement which described Bush as a man with “sound judgement, common sense, and unflappable leadership.”
