German media are reporting that police now believe they arrested the wrong person.

German police have arrested the wrong man in the search for a lorry driver who killed at least 12 people in a suspected terror attack in Berlin yesterday, according to reports in the German media.

A report in German daily, Die Welt, citing high ranking security officials as sources, says that while a Pakistani man arrested near the scene was originally thought to have carried out the attack, police now believe they’ve got the wrong man and the attacker is still at large.

“We have the wrong man,” said a senior police chief. “And thus a new situation. For the real culprit is still armed at large and can cause new damage.”
