Gerry Adams is being questioned by the police over the murder of Jean McConville in 1972

Police in Northern Ireland have arrested Gerry Adams in relation to the murder of Jean McConville and have been questioning him on Wednesday evening.

Adams confirmed, in a statement, that he had been arrested, but insisted that it was a pre-arranged interview with the police, and that it was completely voluntary on his part.

According to AP, Adams was well aware of the allegations that he had been involved in the execution of McConville, but that they were “malicious” and that he had no part in it.

It is believed that Adams was implicated after two IRA veterans gave interviews as part of an archive project by researchers in Boston College.
