Gerry Adams says Theresa May is in breach of the Good Friday Agreement

In no uncertain terms…

Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams has told UK Prime Minister Theresa May that she is in breach of the Good Friday Agreement over her bid to get an agreement with the DUP to get into government.

Adams said that Sinn Féin would oppose any such deal between the two parties.

Speaking outside of Number 10, Downing Street, Adams revealed that he and his party colleagues told Theresa May very directly that she would be in breach of the Good Friday Agreement.

Adams’ claim comes after former Conservative Prime Minister John Major voiced his serious reservations about a deal between the Tories and the DUP to prop up the Conservative government.

He claimed such a deal could endanger the peace process.

“If there are difficulties with the Northern Ireland executive or with any one of a number of things that might well arise during the Brexit negotiations, it’s very important that there’s an honest broker – and the only honest broker can be the UK government,” Major said.

“And the question arises, if they cease to be seen as such by part of the community in Northern Ireland, then one can’t be quite certain how events will unwind. And that worries me a great deal about the peace process.”
