The three judges at the Special Criminal Court delivered their verdict on Monday afternoon.

Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch has been found not guilty of the murder of David Byrne seven years ago.

The 33-year-old Kinahan gang member was shot to death on 5 February 2016 at the Regency Hotel. Gerry Hutch was charged with the murder and had previously pled not guilty.

RTÉ News reports that the prosecution in the high-profile Special Criminal Court trial claimed that Gerry Hutch was one of two gunmen disguised in fake Garda tactical uniforms who shot Byrne as he scrambled on the ground of the hotel.

However, on Monday afternoon (17 April), the three judges at the Special Criminal Court delivered their verdict in the trial and the 60-year-old from the Paddocks in Clontarf was found not guilty.

Meanwhile, two other men – Paul Murphy of Cherry Avenue, Swords, Dublin and Jason Bonney of Drumnigh Wood, Portmarnock, Dublin – were found guilty of participating in or contributing to the murder of Byrne by providing access to motor vehicles on 5 February 2016.

Both men had pleaded not guilty to the charge.
