Global recall ordered on baby milk product after babies become sick

Carl Kinsella

Lactalis, a French company which produces baby milk, has issued a global recall on its baby milk products.

The recall was issued after 26 infants became sick after consuming the milk. The recall covers hundreds of products that are marketed under the Celi, Picot and Milumel brands.

It is feared that the stock has become contaminated with salmonella.

A company spokesperson told Agence France that there were fears that roughly 7000 tonnes of the product had been contaminated.

According to the BBC, anything produced by the company since February has been recalled. The current scare began in December 2017, when 26 babies fell sick after consuming the products.

Salmonella bacteria can cause food poisoning and symptoms include diarrhoea, stomach cramps and vomiting. Roughly one third of all salmonella diagnoses occur in children aged 4 or younger.
