Good news everyone! The ozone layer is healing!

Carl Kinsella

WE DID IT.

The gigantic hole in the ozone layer above Antarctica is slowly but surely becoming less gigantic, scientists at the University of Leeds have reported.

The ozone layer, which absorbs harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun, had been partially eroded by humanity’s use of CFCs.

It’s amelioration is being attributed to the 1987 Montreal Protocol, which was designed to reduce mankind’s use of such chemicals.

It seems now that we have largely adhered to the protocol, as the hole in the ozone layer has shrunk by 1.7million square miles.

At the rate it is currently shrinking, scientists expect that the hole could be fully recovered by the middle of the century.

See what we can do when we put our minds to it?
