Well… it was fun while it lasted.

The recent spell of swelteringly good weather is set to dramatically end on Wednesday with Met Eireann warning of the possibility of thunderstorms hitting many areas.

Tuesday evening will become wetter with heavy thundery showers gradually drifting into the south of the country, these showers will become widespread overnight.

Met Eireann have said that: “Heavy thundery rain will affect many parts of the country [Wednesday] morning. In the afternoon/evening, there will be a slow clearance from the west. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees, but becoming fresher by evening as blustery northwesterly winds develop.

“The next few days will be dominated by a low-pressure system close to Ireland resulting in breezy conditions with showery rain and it will slightly cooler than in recent days.”

Thursday will bring with it some scattered showers early on but these will merge into longer spells of rain in the west and north later. Highest temperatures will range from 14 to 18 degrees in a moderate south-west to southerly wind.

Friday doesn’t look a whole lot better with showery and breezy conditions continuing with rain turning persistent and heavy at times, especially in the west and north.
