Great news for Irish jobs, as online giant Amazon to hire 500 new people in Dublin

Colm Boohig

They’re starting recruitment immediately.

Amazon, the online giant, are creating 500 brand new positions in Dublin.

According to RTÉ, the company are looking to hire in the areas of customer support staff, software engineers and date centre technicians, with the recruitment process commencing straight away.

The fresh recruits will work in Amazon’s online retail arm and Amazon Web Services – the business’s data storage unite.

Speaking to RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Amazon Ireland’s General Manager, Jeff Caselden, explained the decision:

“First and foremost I would say the access to the talent that we’re able to get in this country”, said Caseldon.

“Ireland’s got a very creative culture and we’re also a member of the European Union so there’s a large talent pool we can pull from here.

“Secondly the infastructure that we have in the country is very suitable for what we need to do. Connectivity is very important to us.

“The transatlantic cables that connect North America and Europe terminate here in Ireland. There’s good access to renewable energy.”

The 500 additions in the company’s Dublin base will continue over the next two years, with 1,700 people in Ireland already employed in Amazon’s Dublin and Cork locations.
