This half onion in a bag has more Twitter followers than Enda Kenny, Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin… combined

Paul Moore

To be fair, it’s a great onion.

In the immortal words of Super Hans from Peep Show “people like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis, you can’t trust people Jez.”

In his own weird way, we reckon that the world’s most frequent user of recreational drugs was issuing a warning about the dangers of blindly following the masses. Then again, maybe he had just been smoking crack?

Anywho, one man that does have millions of followers is Donald Trump, 22.4 million on Twitter to be exact, and as we’ve frequently seen, he isn’t shy about sharing his opinions on social media.

To counteract this, some prankster has decided to give this half an onion its own social media account. Lo and behold, it’s doing surprisingly well.

The onion in a bag already has 667,000 followers, and while this figure is still no match for Trump’s audience, the vegetable has already surpassed every politician and Irish political party.

I know what you’re thinking. Is there some correlation between popularity on Twitter with potential voting patterns in Ireland?

Given that we live in a democracy, its only fair that there’s another suitable candidate to run against this onion in any upcoming election.

Does anyone know if there are any cabbages or turnips in the Dail?

In terms of Twitter followers, here’s a look at how Irish political parties compare to this onion in a bag.

Eye-watering stuff.
