Harper Lee, author of To Kill A Mockingbird, dies aged 89

Rest in peace, Harper Lee.

Harper Lee, acclaimed author of Junior Cert staple 'To Kill A Mockingbird' has died at the age of 89 in her hometown of Monroeville. Lee had suffered a stroke in 2007 and was confined to assisted living for the remainder of her life. This led to some controversies, where it has been alleged that her work has been marketed without her consent. Her second novel, Go Set A Watchman, was released in autumn of last year - and was subject to further controversy, with some claiming that Lee did not authorise its release. Some went so far as to claim that it was actually more like a first draft of To Kill A Mockingbird. She created the legendary character of Atticus Finch, and is credited by many as a leading force behind the civil rights movement that rocked America in the 1960s - as the key theme of To Kill A Mockingbird was, indeed, equality. Reports of her death come from AL.com.
