Harvard has released a guide for how to spot the jerk in your office

Carl Kinsella

Jerk-spotting.

While some offices get lucky, ancient wisdom says that every open-plan has got at least one jerk who makes life difficult for everybody else trying to get through their day.

The good people over at Harvard Business School have identified certain attributes possessed by the ‘toxic worker’. Some of them will probably remind you of someone in your office… and if they don’t remind you of anybody, that toxic worker might just be you.

Traits of the ‘toxic worker’:

  • Overconfidence
  • Primarily concerned with their own interests
  • Always talk about how they are following the rules
  • High-performing

If somebody checks every box on this list, they might just be a jerk.
