Disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein is set to turn himself over to the police on Friday, according to reports.

Accusations made against Weinstein by dozens of women in 2017 formed a huge part of the #MeToo movement, and led to accusations surfacing against many other actors and important figures in the movie business.

It now appears that Weinstein, who founded the entertainment company Miramax, will be surrendering to authorities tomorrow, to face charges of sexual assault relating to an incident in 2004.

The complainant’s name is Lucia Evans, and she was one of the women who shared her story with Ronan Farrow for the original Weinstein exposé published in the New Yorker last October. She alleges that Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex on him.

“I said, over and over, ‘I don’t want to do this, stop, don’t,’ ” she said. “I tried to get away, but maybe I didn’t try hard enough. I didn’t want to kick him or fight him.”

CNN notes that Weinstein has previously “unequivocally denied” any allegations of non-consensual behaviour.

The New York Daily News reported that the probe was handled by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office and NYPD. Weinstein’s attorney Benjamin Brafman declined to comment for their story on Thursday.
