The five day search for a missing man from Mayo has been stood down following the discovery of a body.
Padraig Dooley, who was 66, was reported missing from Charlestown on Wednesday April 1.
Gardai launched a public appeal shortly after his disappearance describing Padraig as 5'9 tall and of strong build with dark hair.
He was last seen on the morning of Wednesday April 1 in Ballaghaderreen, Roscommon.
He was wearing a dark coloured fleece, tan trousers, a high vis vest, and black shoes.
Gardai appealed for anyone with information to contact them, saying: "Gardaí are appealing to the public for assistance in tracing the whereabouts of Padraig Dooley (66), who was reported missing from Charlestown, Co. Mayo since Wednesday 1st April 2026.
"Padraig is described as being approximately 5 foot 9 inches in height, of strong build, with black hair.
"Padraig was last seen wearing a dark coloured fleece, tan trousers, a high visibility vest and black shoes on the morning of Wednesday 1st April 2026 in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon."
In a heartbreaking update, Gardai later confirmed that the missing persons appeal had been stood down following the discovery of a body.
They said: "Following the discovery of a body, the missing person appeal in respect of Padraig Dooley (66), who was reported missing from Charlestown, Co. Mayo since Wednesday 1st April 2026, has been stood down. "No further media attention is required. An Garda Síochána would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance."
