Irish pubs expect to create way more summer jobs than usual this year

Carl Kinsella

Way more than usual.

The Vintner’s Federation of Ireland, speaking on behalf of most of Ireland’s pubs, has announced that they expect to create 5000 more seasonal positions for staff than usual this summer thanks to various factors.

While the VFI usually anticipate the creation of roughly 12000 pub jobs for summer, this year the association is projecting an approximate 17000 jobs, according to Newstalk.

The VFI credit both the increase in vacations to Ireland, as well as Ireland’s participation in the Euro 2016 tournament this summer, as reasons for the increase.

These projections come from the 43rd annual conference of the Federation which is taking place in Wexford this week and involves 4000 members.

Pubs and hotels are the most significant employers overall in the Irish tourism industry, employing roughly 50000 and 46000 people respectively according to figures from Fáilte Ireland.
