Start making those plans.

For the first time in a long time, our friends that are travelling abroad and those that are living on the continent can revert to their usual sense of smug satisfaction when it comes to the weather.

Sadly, it appears that Ireland’s heatwave is over while mainland Europe braces itself for the highest ever temperature recorded.

On the plus side, it’s a Bank Holiday weekend and there’s plenty of sport and activities to do around the country. Happy days.

Ok, what can we expect to see? Here’s what the good people at Met Éireann have predicted over the next dew days.

Friday morning is going to be cloudy and misty with a few scattered showers and patches of drizzle. The weather will become drier throughout the day though and the cloud will become more broken with occasional sunshine later on. Highs of 20 to 24 degrees in light breezes.

As for Friday night, it’s expected to be mostly dry and cloudy with lows of 12 or 13 degrees. A few fog patches in places.

Saturday will be generally dry with highs of 19 to 22 degrees. It should be bright day throughout with mixed cloud and some periods of better sunshine.

As for Sunday, it’s set to be mostly dry with the best sunshine and highest temperatures occurring over Leinster and Munster; the west and northwest will tend to be cloudier through the day. Highs of 19 to 25 degrees, warmest across south Leinster. This being said, some outbreaks of rain will develop over the northern half of the country on Sunday night.

Ah, Monday. That glorious day that the majority of people will have free from work. Three-day weekend, baby!

It’s expected to be cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle across the north and west of the country; more eastern and southern counties will be generally dry for the day though. Highs of 17 to 22 degrees in light breezes.

Ah, who cares what Monday’s like. Three. Day. Weekend!

Get out and enjoy it!
