Here’s where Ireland ranks in terms of the most expensive countries in Europe

It's not pretty

Paul Moore

It’s not pretty.

If you’ve been away on your summer holidays recently then you probably discovered that once again, your money lasted a bit longer abroad than it would back here.

Then again, maybe you absolutely went wild in a haze of buying expensive drinks, clothes and fast cars. Kudos to you then.

Money Wayne's World

Eurostat recently engaged in another one of their price comparison studies across a host of European countries and the results aren’t great reading if you live in Ireland.

Food, drink, clothing, transport, hotels, restaurants, education, housing, petrol, insurance and mortgage rates were just some of the expenses that were studied and Ireland is the fourth most expensive country in Europe.

Only people living in the UK, Sweden and Denmark are feeling the pinch more than us. Take a look at these graphs.

It should be noted though that price comparisons are difficult to ascertain due to the varied tastes from people living in different countries and the fact that goods don’t have a standardised price across the Eurozone but this approach is the most accurate one available and it definitely makes for interesting reading.
