Higgins has over four times the support of his closest rival.

With the Presidental Election to be held on Friday 26 October, all eyes are already looking towards who the public is planning to vote for, and a newly published poll show that Michael D. Higgins is looking at a landslide election result for his re-election.

Those in the poll were asked who would they give their first considerations to, and Higgins came out on top, with over four times the amount of support of his closest rival.

That closest rival is one of two Dragon’s Den alumni listed, with Gallagher also having failed to win during his 2011 bid for the Presidential Election.

Also in the poll is a candidate that is yet to actually be named, but Sinn Féin are said to be set to announce their Presidential Election candidate this weekend, with Liadh Ní Riada, the party’s MEP for the South constituency, expected to be selected to run.

The results of the Red C poll by the Sunday Business Post are as follows:

Michael D. Higgins – 67%

Sean Gallagher – 15%

Sinn Féin’s as-yet-unnamed candidate – 7%

Gavin Duffy – 6%

Joan Freeman – 3%

Peter Casey – 1%

Gemma O’Doherty – 1%
