Hollywood legend Robert Redford has passed away at the age of 89, as first reported in the New York Times.
Redford was best known for his performances in iconic movies Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, and All The President’s Men.
His representative said that Redford passed away at his home in Sundance, Utah.
She said he passed away in: “The place he loved, surrounded by those he loved.
“He will be missed greatly.”
Redford won a Best Acting Academy Award for The Sting (1973).
Alongside appearances in some of the 20th Century’s most acclaimed films, Redford is best remembered for founding the Sundance Festival in the 1980s.
In the four decades since it has grown to become one of the biggest marketplaces for American film outside of Hollywood.
As a film director he won two Academy Awards for 1980’s Ordinary People.
Robert Redford leaves behind four children.
