A clip of the incident has been viewed more than 180,000 times since it was posted on Facebook on Sunday night.

A harrowing video of an assault on Parnell Street after the All-Ireland Football Final on Sunday has emerged online, a video which shows a man in a Dublin GAA jersey kicking another man – thought to be homeless – in the head.

The 24-second clip shows a group of men in Dublin GAA jerseys in the vicinity of a man sitting in a sleeping bag on the ground beside a closed shop front near the Luas stop at Parnell Street.

One man can be seen kicking the man sat on the ground in the head. Another man can be seen attempting to hold the Dublin supporter back during the incident but ultimately fails to do so.

The act was caught on video by Dubliner Patrick Paget, who posted it on Facebook alongside the caption: “Had a great day working in Croker… Dublin taking home the Sam four times in a row… Only to be walking home and see this on our streets #terrible #horrible #scumshouldbeashamed”.

The video was then shared by Inner City Helping Homeless (ICHH) CEO Anthony Flynn, who called it “an absolutely shocking incident.”

“This person must be held accountable for what seems to be a mindless attack on a vulnerable person. This needs to be shared far and wide, let’s identify this person!” Flynn said.

In a statement released to JOE, the Gardaí confirmed that the incident had not yet been reported.

“An Garda Síochána does not comment on videos posted on social media posted by third parties. But with this incident, we have no record of any incident being reported.”

Speaking to JOE, Flynn claimed that a man had in fact been arrested, as was relayed to the ICHH by a woman whose father was involved in detaining the man responsible.

“A woman from Kerry called us saying that her father detained your man until the Gardaí came, so an arrest has been made,” Flynn added.

Flynn also released a statement on behalf of the ICHH, stating that “the full weight of the law” must be exercised in instances like this one.

“The shocking attack that occurred yesterday on a vulnerable person must be investigated by An Garda Siochana. Any attack on a vulnerable person must be dealt with with the full weight of the law.

“Those experiencing homelessness require supports and compassion not mindless attacks, this attack must and should be condemned.”
