Houses in Drogheda evacuated after suspected explosive device found

Gardaí have sealed off a house in Drogheda after finding a “suspect device.”

According to a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána, the army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal squad have been called in after a suspect device was found at a house in Drogheda, Co. Louth.

As part of an ongoing investigation, Gardaí from the Drogheda crime unit carried out a search at a house in Marley Court, Drogheda on Monday evening (10 December).

During the search quantities of suspected cocaine and amphetamines were also seized during the search. Following the discovery of the suspect device, a cordon was put in place and surrounding houses were evacuated.

A man and woman in their 50s were arrested at the scene and are currently detained under section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 at Drogheda Garda Station.
