The American tourist was rushed to the Mater Hospital on Wednesday

An American tourist has been rushed to hospital after falling from the Howth cliffs.

It is believed the young man fell from a height of almost 30 feet.

The male, aged in his 20s, is in a serious but stable condition in the Mater Hospital.

According to reports, the tourist fell "from a significant height" when he was climbing up a cliff from Whitewater beach.

His family was with him at the time of the incident and alerted emergency services, who rushed to the scene on Wednesday evening.

A multi-agency operation was launched following the incident.

Howth RNLI, the Coast Guard, Dublin Fire Brigade paramedics, and Gardaí all attended the scene.

The young man was airlifted from the beach to the Mater Hospital on Wednesday evening.
