Some good news from Paul Reid.
Director-General of the HSE Paul Reid has said that there are “reasons to be hopeful”, following the latest Covid-19 figures released today.
As of Wednesday morning (3 March), 475 Covid-19 patients are in Irish hospitals, with 112 people in intensive care units.
Reid said that on top of these encouraging figures, we are beginning to see the positive effect of the vaccine on healthcare workers and the most vulnerable.
He said that infections among these people are “hugely decreasing”.
He concluded: “More to go, so let’s see this through now”.

The Republic of Ireland’s 14-day incidence of the virus now stands at 201.2.
Tuesday saw the reporting of an additional 14 Covid-related deaths, as well as 359 new cases, as confirmed cases continue to fall.
This is the lowest number of daily case figures reported since December.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn said in a statement: “While the low number of cases reported today may be attributable to a weekend effect, it is nevertheless very welcome.
“While we continue to make good progress in Ireland, globally in the past week, the number of cases of Covid-19 has increased for the first time in seven weeks. We must not allow this virus the opportunity to do the same here.
