The incident took place on Friday evening.
Iarnród Éireann has condemned the “reckless criminal damage” caused by a motorist who drove through a level crossing in Dublin on Friday.
The driver crashed through both sides of the protective fence at the Porterstown level crossing on Friday evening, causing major delays to several services in the process.
At time of writing – 6pm on Friday 19 October – services are beginning to resume but delays are to be expected.
The affected train routes include journeys to Maynooth, M3 Parkway and Longford/Sligo.
Crews are currently en route to repair and control the crossing.
Iarnród Eireann has alerted Gardaí to pursue the culprit, who was driving a black saloon car at the time.
