Iceland’s ladies look to #FreeTheNipple with equality campaign [NSFW]

Today is 'no bra day,' in case you didn't know

Iceland’s ladies seek sexual equality by flashing their breasts on social media.

If you follow a load of Icelandic Twitter accounts and your feed has been overflowing with bare breasted ladies over the last couple of days, we can explain the reason why.

An Icelandic girl took off her top and posted the image the image to promote sexual equality on Wednesday and was immediately by abuse from one man in particular on the site.

Suddenly, even though the initial tweets were removed, a hashtag – #FreeTheNipple – was born and everyone from celebrities to members of parliament were flashing the flesh and insisting that if men can go bare chested, so can the ladies.

“For me it’s about being the way you want,” said Heiður Anna Helgadóttir, the head of the University of Iceland’s Feminist Association,

“It’s just a body part. Boys have breasts and nipples and it’s fine for them to expose them. The same should apply to us.”

In the interests of solidarity, the men are not to be left out either. This is gender equality, after all.
