If you know someone in the Emirates, tell them to stop swearing on WhatsApp

Stick to the angry emoji faces

Stick to the angry emoji faces.

WhatsApp is the most popular messaging app in the world and it’s dead handy if you want to stay in touch with people abroad because all you need is WiFi or 3G to chat.

If you chat to anyone living in the United Arab Emirates, you might want to tell them to keep it clean in the messages because of a new law.

The new law means that swearing at someone on WhatsApp in Dubai or Abu Dhabi could now land you with a €62,000 fine and possible deportation.

The new law has been introduced after the UAE’s Supreme Court felt a fine €750 for the offence was too lenient, so they’ve upped the charge for people swearing on the app.

The craziest bit is that authorities say sending a middle finger emoji symbol would also be punishable under the law.

It might be a good idea to tell your buddies living over there.
