Barry Keoghan has revealed his struggles with addiction

Irish actor Barry Keoghan has revealed his past struggles with addiction.

The Saltburn actor said he is no longer in denial about his struggles anymore in a video with Hollywood Authentic.

Keoghan has lost many loved ones to addiction, including his late mother Debbie, who passed away when Keoghan was just 12.

Speaking about his own personal battle, Keoghan said he “is an addict.”

He shared: “I understand that I do have an addiction, and I am an addict. You know, when you accept that, you finally can move on and learn to work with it.”

Keoghan explained that his driver Niall brought him to a rehab facility in England for help.

“Niall literally drove me and put me on a plane himself, came with me and brought me to the rehab in England.”

Keoghan said he has since overcome his addiction and even returned to rehab to thank the staff for caring for him during such a harrowing time in his life.

He explained that there’s a lot of pressure in the acting world to get involved in a “different lifestyle.”

“My father passed away as a result of similar and I lost my mum to it. I’ve lost two uncles and a cousin to drugs.

“You know, you go to LA, you go to Hollywood, wherever the big scene is. There’s an enormous amount of pressure, and a different lifestyle that is good and bad for you. You’re around the scene. You just happen to be the one that ends up doing it.”

He added: “That should be enough to go, “Okay, if I dabble here, I’m f***ed. But your curiosity is a powerful thing. Sometimes it’s beneficial and sometimes it’s detrimental. For me, it was detrimental.”

Keoghan didn’t confirm what his addiction was, but he has confirmed he is now in a good place.

He said he’s at peace now, especially since becoming a father.

“I’m at peace now, and responsible for everything that I do,” he said.

Keoghan added, “I’m getting to just see that haze that was once there – it’s just a bit sharper now, and colourful.”
