Improvised explosive device made safe in Dublin

The item was made safe by the Defence Forces.

An area in Santry was evacuated on Thursday morning following the discovery of an improvised explosive device.

The residents of a house became suspicious of an object in the driveway of their home and contacted An Garda Síochána.

The item consisted of a metal pipe and Gardaí called the Army Bomb Disposal Team to the scene.

Following an inspection, the improvised explosive device was made safe. It was then taken to Cathal Brugha Army Barracks for further inspection.

Investigations are ongoing.

The Defence Forces has urged members of the public to inform An Garda Síochána if they encounter suspicious items, or hazardous substances and to always maintain a safe distance.
