Help homeless Dublin

Everyone can do a little bit to help.

While Christmas is a time for family, it’s also a time for looking out for those who are less fortunate than yourself.

Inner City Helping Homeless in Dublin are organising a “Fill an Xmas Truck” event which will run on Thursday 12 December in Mountjoy Square Park.

The aim of the initiative is to provide a shoebox of gifts to the homeless.

It’s simple. Wrap a shoebox, mark it male or female and fill it with the likes of:

  • Hats
  • Scarves
  • Gloves
  • Underwear
  • Socks
  • Toiletries *No aerosols, perfumes, aftershaves, mouthwash or hand sanitizers
  • Christmas Card
  • Chocolate

If you want to donate a shoebox to a homeless child this Christmas, you can specify on the box that it’s for child (include an age range) and whether it’s for a boy or a girl.

Some of things you can include are:

  • A small toy
  • Book
  • Hat
  • Gloves
  • Scarves
  • Card
  • McDonald’s voucher
  • Smyths voucher

The shoeboxes are just one part of what ICHH has planned for 12 December. They’ll also be providing a number of services on the day at Mountjoy Square Park from 7am until 7pm.

These will include:

  • Breakfast
  • Lunch
  • Dinner
  • Pizza/Snacks
  • Tea/Coffee
  • Haircuts
  • Santa’s Grotto
  • Music
  • Other surprises on the day

If you want to get involved in this great initiative, it’s important to note that the shoeboxes will not be given out on 12 December, but they can be dropped off at various locations around Dublin up until 13 December.
