The Irish public has voted overwhelmingly to remove the reference to blasphemy from the Constitution. With all the votes tallied from all 40 constituencies, the final result is as follows: YES: 64.8% - 951, 650 votes NO: 35.1% - 515, 808 votes 22,236 invalid ballot papers were confirmed in total. The news was confirmed shortly after 11pm on Saturday night. It follows the re-election of President Michael D. Higgins, which was officially confirmed a few hours beforehand on what was a busy and historic day for the nation. President Higgins gave a spirited victory speech in which he looked to a brighter future for Ireland. "I will represent, on your behalf, an Ireland committed to a peaceful world," he concluded. A short time later, the results of the blasphemy law referendum arrived following the conclusion of the tally at Dublin Castle.
