Meanwhile, Ireland’s R number is now over 2.

Ireland has administered 15,314 Covid vaccines thus far, according to figures released on Thursday afternoon.

The aim is for 35,000 vaccines to have been distributed across the country by the end of the week.

Among the figures that were released by the HSE on Thursday, it was confirmed that Ireland has received 81,900 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

27,300 doses have been delivered to vaccination centres, with 21,808 extra doses planned to have been delivered by the end of the week.

As part of the rollout, six healthcare workers will be vaccinated live on TV on Friday night’s episode of The Late Late Show.

Earlier in the week, the European Commission gave approval for the use of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine in the European Union, with 880,000 of those set to be supplied to Ireland.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said this vaccine would allow 10,000 more people in Ireland to be vaccinated a week.

Commenting on Ireland’s rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine thus far, Varadkar said: “Give us a couple of weeks. It’s fair to compare us to other EU countries. I think people will see us catch up on peer countries.”

Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly said earlier in the week that vaccination figures would be added to the daily Covid-19 data hub, but no such figures have been uploaded as of yet.
