Ireland has the highest alcohol prices in EU, second highest tobacco prices

Ireland has the highest alcohol prices of all the 28 EU member states, according to new Eurostat figures.

The study showed that Irish people pay the most for a pint in the entire EU, and the fourth most in Europe overall.

Norway, Iceland and Turkey (none of whom are members of the European Union) are all more expensive than Ireland. Norway’s prices are 150% higher than the EU average, with Iceland’s 126% higher and Turkey’s 90% higher.

Ireland’s price level is 75% higher than the EU average, meaning that you’re paying almost twice as much for drink in Ireland as you would be on average across the EU.

Ireland comes second to UK in terms of tobacco prices, where our prices are 89% above the average… But we might take that top spot tomorrow, depending on what the Brits end up deciding on Brexit…
