Ireland cold snap continues as entire country hit with another low temperature and ice warning

As snow has landed in some parts of Ireland, Met Éireann has revealed when you can expect the cold spell to pass.

The entire Republic of Ireland has been issued a fresh weather warning as its current cold snap continues.

Arctic air landing in the country this week has led to sharp to severe frosts and icy stretches on roads and pavements, as well as snow in some parts.

The latter includes the counties Donegal, Kerry, Mayo and Sligo.

The cold spell is set to remain at least for another two days as Met Éireann has issued a new low temperature/ice warning for the Republic of Ireland, which will take effect from 5pm on Thursday (18 January) until 11am on Friday.

It states: “Very cold with severe frost and icy stretches,” adding that the impacts of the conditions include “difficult travelling conditions, low temperature issues for vulnerable people and animal welfare issues”.

There is already two Status Yellow weather warnings in effect in the Republic of Ireland.

One is a snow-ice warning for Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo which will last until 11am on Thursday.

The other is another low temperature/ice warning for the Republic of Ireland that is scheduled until Thursday midday.

Met Éireann’s forecast states that the cold snap is expected to last until Friday afternoon.

The Irish meteorological service’s national outlook says that conditions are set to become “milder, often wet and windy” from this point.
