‘Very strong’ winds are set to sweep the country.

All of Ireland has been hit with Status Yellow wind warnings, with Met Éireann urging the public to be careful of possible displaced objects and debris.

One of the alerts applies to the province of Leinster, as well as the counties Cavan, Cork, Limerick, Monaghan, Tipperary and Waterford.

Another is for the province of Connacht, along with the counties of Clare, Donegal and Kerry.

Both are set to be valid from 12am to 8pm on Thursday (21 December) and state that “northwest winds will be very strong at times”.

They also warn of possible “debris, loose objects displaced” and “difficult driving and cycling conditions”.

The second alert explains that “high waves are also expected” for Connacht, Clare, Donegal and Kerry, which could potentially cause “wave overtopping”.

On top of this, the UK Met Office has published another Yellow wind warning for all of Northern Ireland that is scheduled to take effect from 12am to 9pm on Thursday.

The wind alerts come as Met Éireann has issued a warning to those taking part in Christmas swims this year.

That is because “potentially dangerous sea conditions” are set for along the Atlantic coast.
