Maud Nicholl was from Antrim and she was born in July 1909. RIP.
Maud Nicholl, thought to be the oldest woman on the island of Ireland, has died at the age of 110.
Born in Ballymena on 3 July 1909, she passed away at Glenkeen Nursing Home on Thursday afternoon, as reported by the BBC.
A statement from the nursing home said:
“Maud loved to share stories of her life, particularly her childhood and was always full of joy. Maud had a sharp wit, a twinkle in her eye and a penchant for straight talking.
“Her love of singing, good craic and her pleasant nature will all be long remembered by the staff in Glenkeen.”
Speaking with the Ballymena Daily, the Deputy Mayor of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council, Councillor Beth Adger said that Maud was “such a joy to be near, always laughing, she had a great sense of humour.”
Adger added:
“She never married and she had only one brother. She loved poetry, the Bible, and her parents.
“She said she always ate everything that was set down to her and had a great sense of humour. Her neighbours and friends will miss her very much.”
