Pope Francis has announced that he intends to attend the next World Meeting of Families, which is set to be held three years from now in Dublin.

The event, which began in 1994, takes place every three years and is considered to be the world’s largest Catholic gathering of families.

The aim of the congress is to ‘strengthen the sacred bonds families across the globe’. Pope Francis’ visit will be the first papal visit to Ireland in almost forty years, which is surprising given our Catholic credentials.

Hopefully, the event will take place in September – so we can get plenty of footage of the pontiff drinking out of the Sam Maguire, or out on the sesh in Coppers.

Alright, maybe we’re being a bit optimistic but we’ll be pretty pleased if we can just get him to try one Guinness.
