The Irish Cancer Society is to stop taking donations from top law firm, Arthur Cox.

The charity, which relies on donations from both the public and private sector, have made the ‘difficult’ decision in light of recent revelations about the company.

Arthur Cox is the firm representing tobacco giants Japan International in a threatened lawsuit against the Irish government over legislation concerning plain packaging on boxes of cigarettes.

The tobacco group claims that the legislation is in breach of their intellectual property rights.

Arthur Cox is also a legal adviser to the HSE and that is now currently under review by the HSE itself in light of the threatened legal action from Japan International.

JOE’s own Eric Lalor is currently writing a weekly blog as he attempts to quit smoking for good, which you can read here.

The blog goes live on our site every Friday.
