Irish Coast Guard called to deal with large snake in Cork

Paul Moore

A slippery surprise.

You might not be in a hurry go swimming in Youghal, Cork anytime soon after a slithery surprise was found on a local beach.

The snake, which measures 1.5m, was initially reported to be a Turtle Headed Sea Snake, but it now appears that it’s more likely to be a California King Snake, a snake with similar patterns, but one that is non-poisonous to humans.

The discovery was reported by the Irish Coast Guard, who said: “The national Coast Guard control centre was informed, due to the unavailability of St. Patrick, Cork County Council was requested.”

They added: “While walking the beach today a member of Youghal Coast Guard spotted a snake 1.5 metres in length near the board walk. MRCC Dublin were contacted and subsequently Cork County Council. The snake is thought to be a Turtle headed Sea Snake. The snake was removed by Cork County Council staff.”

Our mind has instantly turned to this.
