Three people in serious condition following rescue operation at Malin Head

The alert was raised after a boat capsized late on Tuesday afternoon.

Three people have been taken to hospital following a search and rescue operation at Malin Head on Tuesday.

Irish station Highland Radio reported that the Coast Guard was alerted at approximately 4pm after a boat capsized in the area.

Three people were on board the small fishing vessel, and all have since been rescued due to the efforts of a joint operation by Green Castle Coast Guard and Lough Swilly RNLI.

The three people have since been taken to hospital with their condition described as “serious”.

The Coast Guard helicopter and a number of local fishing boats also assisted in the operation.

A spokesperson for the Coast Guard strongly urged the public to follow safety guidelines when taking the to waters, and to stay connected and stay afloat.
