Director of the Irish National Seismic Network Tom Blake encouraged people who felt the tremor to get in touch.
According to the Irish Sun, he said: “There was a minor tremor which measured 1.5 on the Richter scale- that’s a fairly minor tremor but was felt nonetheless.
“It was felt by people and would have been felt by animals. Our systems pick up very minute tremors.
“We are very keen to hear from people and if people could share their experiences with us then we would ask them to get it touch."
The Irish National Seismic Network has since launched a questionnaire for anyone who may have experienced the earthquake.
The largest event recorded in this area was a magnitude 2.2 which occurred near Clonmany on November 21 1994.
